Well, linux as a kernel supports multicore processors and has various good distributed filesystems that can be used to create a cloud computing environment. It still needs some application software and some hypervisor below it for load balancing and various other things. As mentioned before, ubuntu 9.10 can be used to set up a cloud computing environment.
