Dear Partha,
What you say about the dumbness part is quite true. Your idea of doing a
basic install of Red Hat and additional packages from the Net might work
but is likely to involve a _great deal_ of hard work and sleepless
nights. Instead, why not just switch to another distribution? IMHO any
other distribution is very likely to be far less dumb. As a strictly personal
opinion, Slackware has the advantage that is uses tar.gz packaging only.
