As far as I know, only the Wintel ppl indulge in stupid
practices like making WinPrinters & WinModemes et al.....I
guess you mean wether CD Writers will work under Linux.
Well, they do and my burner [HP 4020i] works happily under
Linux. If it is HP that you want, I would say the entire HP
range that is available in the market today ( e.g. 7020,
9020....) will work sweetly with almost any flavour of Linux
that you can get your paws on. Indra has already pointed me
towards the urls that he has told you about in his mail.
>From what I read there I gather that the entire thing is
controlled by SCSI commands.

But if you are interested in buying one of these ( rather
EXPENSIVE ) beasts I would suggest that you go in for the
YAMAHA or even the new Philips Model that are available for
they are WAY cheaper and do allow you to overburn.

In case you are passing by my place (or anywhere near it) do
drop in with a floppy and I will give you the latest CD
Writing HOWTOs and FAQs that I have downloaded a week ago.
That way you will save quite a bit on your phone bill !

As for the software, in Linux, cdrecord seems to be the
primary software that actually does the burning bit. But
before that you need to make an image of the disk you want
to produce (and Oh Boy ! does that take up space on your
HDD) I am also in the process of downloading some FrontEnds
in X for the actual command line utils. I shall soon be
putting down all of this on a CD which would be available to
the ILUG-Cal members for borrowing.

Do keep us posted on hoe you fare with your new CD Writer.

Ciao
