Hi Soumen,
Now that issues have been resolved, why don't you lead a team of
spirited (hic!) individuals to re-develop our ilug-cal site ? The existing
site is good and motivated me to change over to Gimp (beautiful graphic),
but as we are all aware of , is slightly outdated.
As about generating e-business, is it for the sake of satiating
buzzwordery or making some money/profits for ILUG-CAL ? ILUG_CAL does need a
lot of money; because as far as I am aware there is no subscription (at
least I haven't paid any ;) and since there are/had been expenses , people
devoted enough to be in the forefront had to take them up. This has been a
long standing problem of the lug and it is time that we do something about
it.
Indra, you shall be coming to Bangalore for IT.Com, why don't we
catch up and discuss on the future and (oh_how_much_we_hate_this) revenue
models ? Or.. jaaas like that. Patha da is in BLR too, methinks ? What
Partha da , fix a 'date' ?
Coming back to eBusiness, it is tough to really drive it for a
non-profit organisation like ilugcal. But we do need resources, and hence ,
money. MAny people , esp students, have been wanting to lay their hands on
some CDs, mags and it is inappropriate that onlysome people bear the cost
whenever these are purchased. So why don't we have (as proposed many times
before) a Fund ?
From the Fund :
o Purchase CD-Mags with appropriate redistribution rights,
so hat we might put up some articles on the ilug- cal
web page for all.
o Think of a library mechanism which works.
o Sponsor at least one STUDENT (not Indra ;) to go to a
Linux conference / seminar / expo periodically
Justification of choosing a Student is that they are
the economically most deprived lot, often
shuddering to part with Rs 100/- to buy that PCQ CD
o Making up for the base cost of getting speakers to come
and deliver sessions in Calcutta
