I beg to differ. I still have a USR internal modem
that can be happily used under any OS that has a
terminal app. In fact, not ALL internals are
winmodems, there are hordes of internals that can be
used under any OS. Only the CHEAP internals are
winmodems - essentially because DSPs are really cheap
to implement in software as opposed to hardware -
which is where the winmodem differs from the normal
modem.
