hello archan, saugata, indra, russell

sorry for being out in the wild due to virus immbilising hdd

just recovered .. its a looooong thread.

i would like to add :

1. most sites have a hyper link saying :
'if this page fails to load, click here'
i feel that although links point to particular
servers, sometimes those are not available..
like russellda's server for a few days when
    he was setting up hardware
so the user has the option to goto another
site too .. in case the primary site is not available
for so many of the possible reasons
(the stepne tyre is very important in a car)

2. russell is one person ilug-cal will be always indebted
to .. for his unqualified, complete support. i, for one,
would be really honoured if russel consented to continue
being out 'atlas' and carry on the load of (reduced?) work
.. remember .. he does it for love and for free (he IS very
costly to pay to do what he does .. i did ask him for my
pksharma.com .. and found out what he really is charging)

3. no one .. just no one .. in the world can be a russell ..
so, for his sake and ours too .. reducing workload on him
would probably be proper, but migration from his servers
for ever .. nope, it may be better to think about it

4. obviously there can't be 2 urls having same name for
ilug-cal.org .. name servers have to be informed to the
registrar .. present registrar of www.ilug-cal.org would
have to alter the setting to point to a different quad

5. there are things called mirror sites .. if the reduced work
load is ok with russell (i would reluctantly accept it, russell
does a job no one else can possibly do better .. its the
way he is made by god .. totally different .. and sooo
highly motivated .. for non-monetary reasons !), then the
url can point anywhere, but russell could have a mirror
backup of all that happens in www.ilug-cal.org .. being
involved at all stages .. not carrying any load, little load,
whatever.. but being in touch .. actively in touch

6. who decides ? for russell, indra does.. for the other one
    a committee (??) .. c'mon guys .. even a meeting date,
time, venue takes such a long complicated caverneous
route .. and the proposal to have chairman, prez, secy,
treasurer (PST) like normal clubs .. we shot THAT down ..
open source and all that reasons .. i guess the sphagetti
like approach is best avoided.. even linux has to have
some fixed parameters .. not on ad hoc basis .. every
issue .. multitude of emails .. many times more than one
from each member too .. and sooo much wading thru to
find out that what is the 'NOW' picture .. well .. i guess
its easier for having some sort of structure ..

7. ANYONE wanting to wear the crown of thorns ? .. to get
the brickbats later .. errr .. latest brickbats .. because
he who does is he who gets .. criticised .. by the rest ..

SO ! while we can all write, rave, rant, speak, tell, suggest,
air our things .. SOMEONE .. has to be entrusted with a
responsibility which ALL cannot possibly be held responsible
for .. who is THAT someone ? any takers ? raise your hands
and be ready to be bashed on the head later ;-D

(ARCHAN is faar faar away, and immune to physically being
bashed .. so .. arachan ? how abt it ?)

..pk
