Hi friends:
The heat is killing me! and last two days our A/C line was down and it
is miserable on the top floor. I am only hoping that the A/C line will
be repaired by Saturday.
The ilugcal.becdu.ac.in server is being tested out. we are installing
the ssh. after that we will enable the telnet and ftp for administartion
purpose. I need to setup a chat server also.

Topic: web server and ftp server for ilug-cal:

There is some heated mail (or cold mail being heated up). I think if we
all work together for the advantage of ilug-cal then we have to come to
a fair and simple conclusion.

I would like to get the server up as soon as possible, and utilize it
for the benefit of the ilug cal group...
We should do things that benefit the ilug-cal.
Here is my impartial view.
1. Get this server up
2. Copy all the important information here.
3. Get everyone to try and use this system... and checkout the advantages...
4. If the bandwidth is good, then I prefer to make this the web server
and mail server. and the US site the backup...but ftp may be better from
US, so that anyone from India could ftp useful information and keep
ilucal.becdu.ac.in as the mirror.

I would like Archan, Arup, Saugata, Abhijit Bhattacharyya and others who
are specializing on linux related areas to give some information on how
we could use this server to disseminate info on the following:
1. Embedded Systems
2. Internet Security
3. Parallel Virtual Machines
4. PDA/Simputer -- I saw a news item that Simputer will be in the
market soon...P.S. we have one here in PDSIT.
5. Intel StrongARM/MIPS processors and their use in Embedded Systems
6. Learning C and kernel programming
7. Setting up web services with IBM WebSphere on Linux...
There could be other important points .

Let one or two persons control each segment and support the group who
would like to learn these topics more. I will try to organize meetings
on Sundays to demo the tools and software related to it.
So one day we will install and test PVM, another day we will try out
cross toolchains on StrongARM etc...

I would like to make as much resources as possible to be made available
for for the benefit of Schools, Colleges, staff and students..in and
around Kolkata. Please invite some schools to come on a Sunday and take
a demo on Linux and all the services like web, mail etc...

We expect to get IBM University program approved soon, I will try to
arrange demo of the same on weekends here.

So please keep tempers cool (Look who is talking!! only this morning I
shouted at Sanjay Bhattacharya - he ditched me on an appointment
yesterday and I kept waiting in the sweltering heat in the car for him
for one full hour ---but then later I cooled off and apologised!!)

Regards
jpm
