Well 35,000 Indian Rupees is a lot of money for the average Indian. He spends that much to get what he thinks is a decent computer. And then tell him to spend Rs.7000 more on a buggy operating system and he's likely to freak out. Man these commercial software guys charge big time for their buggy software especially in India. They hike up prices, claiming its because of piracy. I think if M$windoze XP is available at marked down prices (say 3000 bucks) that 70% piracy would be down. How much, that I can't tell but it would be down significantly. Why can't we have India specific software, say like a version of windoze which has only support for only Indian Standard (Stretchable?) Time. That way M$ can make sure that it is not sold outside India while they can mark the price down a bit. The only way to get piracy down is to get parity btw. price with regard to the average financial ability. We already have this concept in tech books, so why not software?
