Hi !!

Correct me if i'm wrong, but right now it stands that LUGCal is getting
involved in both the events, provided the funds permit. Talking of funds,
how are we planning to go about raising the money ?

A point was raised that someone could book the stall(s) in his/her personal
capacity and then let LUG use/utilise it. Is that feasible and legally valid
? This needs to be checked out.

Moreover, it was the thread of an earlier mail [mine as well some others]
that the LUG should be there to "handhold" and "promote". The business of
selling and buying should be left to the establised ones in the field. Or
simply put, as most of the vendors [again i think this is an exaggeration]
feel that people specifically do not want Linux on the system as it is
"geeky",it should be left to the LUG to provide an image that Linux is
fun, cool, funky as well as smooth as silk [or anything for that matter].i'm
sure all of us know at least one hardware vendor each, but what is the use
of chaos creation. should we not delegate this task to someone within us, to
liase with the vendors putting forward an idea that vendor(s) could provide
a hardware setup as per our shopping list, a tech [by their standards]
person to oversee that the harware is not abused and in return a place of
prominence will be made availabe to the company. i think a CD-burner should
be there at the venue, you never know when you run out of stock.

As for the CDs to be made availabe at the venues(s), let us create a list of
Distributions & Applications that could be made available. Also the pricing
of the CDs. CD covers can be made to be wonderful publicity material for the
LUGCal as well as the vendors. And only if we could get someone to give away
token mementos at the stall - good publicity it will be.

Right now, beggars cannot be choosers [apologies for such harsh words] and
though what Russell points out makes sense, the IBM - LINUX aspect should be
looked into from a purely self centred [from LUGCal] point of view. And i
agree, getting RedHat in would query up the pitch. If only someone could
provide details of the sponsorship of the Bangalore bash then things could
be a little clearer.

As we would be undertaking what could be the biggest publicity binge ever, a
few media related things need to be cleared up. The website has to be
updated and kept on being updated at regular intervals. If the BE meeting
pix are available then we need to get those online. The papers viz, the
TOI,The Telegraph,HT all need to be notified with a write-up as to the need
and the objective of the event. Someone kind enough had suggested positive
Corporate feelers to this cause, i suppose a letter of intent is the need of
the day. The founding fathers [please forgive as due to lack of presence of
the charming folks 'founding mothers' is not used], can create a piece on
the LUGCal - reason for existence, achievements so far, stellar meetings,
contact details, site links and also the objective in participating in such
events. A letter but slightly modified could also be sent [as discussed in
an earlier mail] to school principals and colleges asking for a presence at
the stall. SDG and others at institutions could you chip in ?

Glad to know that we are meeting, saddened by the fact that i'll be out of
town this weekend. But am never away from a terminal. So if someone posts
the minutes then things will be crystal clear. By the way , what is the
agenda for the meeting ?

Have a beautiful day all of you.
Let's get the show(s) on the road

Regards
Sankarshan
