Hi all, I have setup a small table for Bangla GNOME translation. http://www.bengalinux.org/projects/gnome Please take a look at it and you will see there is a table with all the module names, and an *empty* column for the name of the translator(s). Pick a module you want to translate (based on the number of strings, name of the module, whatever you want). Once you pick a module to translate, please let me know so that I can update the table. This way our works won't overlap. Now here are the basic steps for starting the translation: 0. Setup your system for Bangla if you haven't done so already. Basically this means to install Bangla OpenType fonts (you can use the ones from Free Bangla Font project) and a way to type Bangla. How you want to type Bangla is upto you. You can use yudit/lekho or something like gedit. If you want to use gedit then you will have to setup the Bangla keyboard. Note: You can check the documents section of bengalinux.org's web site for installing fonts and/or keyboard. 1. Check the following page: http://www.bengalinux.org/projects/gnome You will see a table with all the core GNOME modules. Pick one you want to translate, and download the .pot file for that module (this can be done by clicking on the name of the module in the table). 2. Open the pot file with your choice of editor. On the top you will see the header of the pot file. Please take a look at the glib's translated .po (http://developer.gnome.org/projects/gtp/status/gnome-2.1-core/po/glib.glib-2-2.bn.po) file to see what to do with the header. 3. Below the header you will see a list of strings in English, something like this: --- #: src/gconf-editor-window.c:1005 msgid "Short Description:" msgstr "" #: src/gconf-editor-window.c:1018 msgid "Long Description:" msgstr "" --- Now translate them so that they look something like this: --- #: src/gconf-editor-window.c:1005 msgid "Short Description:" msgstr "shonkhipto bornona:" #: src/gconf-editor-window.c:1018 msgid "Long Description:" msgstr "bistarito bornona:" --- NOTE: The translation must be done with Bengali characters, not what you see above :) 4. Once you are done, even partially because we can check in partially translated po files, you may want to do some format checking. Details can be found at: http://developer.gnome.org/doc/tutorials/gnome-i18n/translator.html If you want, skip this part and just let me know. I will do the checking for you. 5. For now, just send the translated pot file to this list or to me. That's it! If you have any questions please ask the list.
