well you see what happens with linux is that we have a base kernel which
is the heart of the operating system, we are currently at version 2.4 of the
kernel, there is a version 2.5 which is the development version.
Now what happens is that on top of this base kernel we have various
vendors / groups who get together a set of utilities that they roll together
in a certain manner and then they call it their particular distribution
(distro).
So we have a few distro's which are more popular than others, the most
popular is RedHat (which is currently at version 8 and probably what you
want), then there are others like Mandrake, Debian, Slackware, Suse, etc
etc..
RedHat is probably the easiest to use, i havnt used it in a long time so
no clues :)
Anyhow you still need RedHat 8 and i dont have a copy that i can give
you, look up ilug-cal.org to see some folk who have copies of the distro's
get in touch with them off list and pick up the CD's or if you're on a
permanent connection go ahead and download it from ftp.redhat.com :)
Hope that helps
