If you are using Slack8.1, then DMPs(9 pins) are no good. I had to shift from SLack8.1 to Debian, since I could not get my DMP ( Panasonic KX-P1150, 9pin) to work at all. But 24 pin may work, I have no experience. Debian woody uses printtool for configuring printers, and my 9pin DMP works fine, except for Abiword, which refuses to recognise the DMP. All others accept it including Gimp, StarOffice, KDE Office. So, my guess is that, you should not be having any problems with 24pins under Debian, as long as your printer is Epson compatible.
