Subject: [ilug-cal] HIT as a venue

Ahem! actions speak louder than words, and the picture which emerges from
Anirban's mail clearly speaks otherwise -- a lack of clarity of thought and
purpose. Like I said before, nothing's wrong with a quid-pro-quo approach, but
this should be clear and known to people.

All those active at COMPASS coordination effort (i.e. you, sayamindu,
tathagatha, sumeet, sankarshan and myself) were in the know about what happened
there. And thanks to that, you and Sumeet were able to arrange HIT as our
meeting venue.

[1] To the best of my knowledge, *during* COMPASS it was only HIT which offered
some help..

[2] Rohit Vishal Kumar of IISWBM came with the query whether the LUG would be
interested in holding a seminar there.

<OFF-TOPIC>
POST-COMPASS DEVELOPMENT: After becoming a LUG member, RVK *did* try to get
IISWBM as LUG venue, but associated red-tape in getting the permission and the
conditional approach proved difficult to work thru. It was RVK's request to keep
quiet about this on the list, since he did not want to raise ppl's hopes in case
it didn't work out, which is what happened.
</OFF-TOPIC>

If I have missed something, please write in.

This is serious, calling the task of conducting the LUG meeting as "shit work"
is in *sheer bad taste*.

Mind you, I'm not objecting to the language per se, but its application to the
aforementioned task. Keeping in mind your past efforts which we all appreciate,
it is my friendly advice that you choose your words with a little more care in
future, specially where you apply them.

Not necessary really! Something that I heard Sumeet repeating to ppl on Saturday
"You do it if you want to! But you are not obliged to do it!", really puts the
point across.

[a] I don't consider what I do w.r.t the LUG as a "workload"... workload is
something that I have to take care of to make my living!

[b] I do it bcoz I want to. So did/does plenty of other people.... in fact
everyone who contributes to the LUG in one way or another.

[c] All that is really needed is to stand up and start doing it, rather than
expecting others to do with. Reminds me of the typical attitude of people --
"Its the govt's job to do it! Why isn't it doing it???"

[d] Take the initiative (as several people have done in past), communicate with
others what you want to do and get on with it. Transparent communication is an
*absolute pre-condition* to ensure we are not working at cross-purposes, or
against the LUG charter/agenda. Problems arise when members are not aware of
whats going on.
