That is the personal opinion of the person who made the logo

It was not the format. It was the tool used that was non-free. It's like
editing a .txt file with M$ Windows. FSF has no objection to that. It
wants people to use Free Software, but doesn't force people to do so.
In the FSF-Freinds list, it was declared that it is not a mistake and
the volunteer has every right to use the software he wants to use.

The Free solution might be easy to use too. Why do you rule out that
possibility.
