I want to get a new motherboard, CPU and RAM. I was wondering whether getting an AMD64 makes better sense at the moment. Would it be more future proof? What would you guys be buying if you had to get a new computer at this moment.

It does make sense to go in for an AMD64 based system right now but on the windows world, you won't find many software optimised to work with the larger 64 bit bus as yet. On the linux side, though, you should'nt have any major problems :) I know for sure that Debian supports AMD 64. There was talk of a slackware port also (slack64 ??) but I dont think it is out yet or its not supported by patrick yet.

use ubuntu 64bit version, as I was informed it is very good.
