To the original guy who asked abt distros for amd64,

One of the people in my hostel have got this amd64 and these are the
distros I have figured out and am downloading. Will tell you what
happens after I burn them and load them up on his pc.

[*] Lormalinux amd64-beta2 (The most promising one, it is my
favourite slack recompiled for the 64 bits!)
http://linux.lorma.edu/main/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=14&Itemid=41
[*] Winxp64 beta (Oh well, just spare me the flame. )
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/64bit/evaluation/upgrade.mspx
[*] Gentoo64 2004.3 beta (Given gentoo's reputation for being a hard
install, Gawd help me!) Check the Gentoo mirrors. Or maybe WBUT has
something?

I will dual boot this with a slack-current now that Pats declared it
as beta! Well, such a lot of downloading will take days, but I will
do it anyway!

Chayan,

>From what my *fiddling around* seems to suggest, amd64 will run a 32
bit kernel and all its 32 bit apps without complaining and without
configuration. However, if you can get a 64 bit kernel, then you will
have to take all your 32 bit apps source code and recompile them for
the 64 bit. This recompiling of course is non-trivial and I am glad
to have our friends at Lorma do it all! :P

Of all the articles I got to, this one was what helped me a lot:
