Hi all, My father runs a PCO in Chennai with around 10 lines, with 2 lines for VoIP (using Phonewala's service).
We are currently using Airtel's broadband service which costs nearly Rs.3000/- per month. We get 2 static IPs for the broadband out of which we are using only one currently for the VoIP. So are paying unnecessarily for 2 IPs instead of one. The running cost is so high due to the broadband charges that we are running the VoIP at a loss ... but to keep customers and get new ones we need to have it. So I was thinking to use up the other IP, why not use a linux box with Asterix (astlinux may be?) as a PBX and provide service whereby people abroad, say in the US, can call up a local number, which would be actually the Asterix box here at my father's shop and then forward that call to whom ever they want to talk to in the city and we charge the person who is being called. This would mean the receiving person would be charged ... but only a local call charge ... which would come out to be Rs. 1.50/- per minute. May be a bit more considering that a US number has to be maintained, may be a 800 number. Now, if the caller has a VoIP phone, then they might be able to even bypass the SIP Proxy and place a direct call to our Linux PBX. So we would not even require a 800 number or something. Just require that the calling party has a VoIP phone, which infact is getting pretty popular in the US. Is this possible? Anybody has implemented or heard of such a thing? Any one has any idea how to do it? Also does any one know of an ISP who gives a static IP at a rate not more than Rs.1200/- per month? Even a 64 Kbps would do. -- - Prem ---------------------------------------------------- Prem Kumar Aparanji M: 00919830631687 [Kolkata, WB, INDIA] http://prem.shaliniprem.com http://www.shaliniprem.com -- To unsubscribe, send mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with the body "unsubscribe ilug-cal" and an empty subject line.
