COMPASS is extended by one day and it will be a 5 day
event from
11th to 15th Mar 2005.
We mainly discussed what will be the roles of
different volunteers
and also how much time they can give before and during
the event.
Indranil will be the main media coordinator and
Saugata will be
the central point of contact. P.K. Sharma - bridge
between
ilug and COMPASS. The number of stall that we are
going to go for
is not fixed yet. The stalls are of size (2x3 meters).
We should at
least go for 2 stalls and if possible 4 or even more.
We should soon get a list of speakers comprising ilug
members and
invited guests.
Arijit took the responsibility of talking to the
Shibpur College faculty.
A. Mani told he can talk to Calcutta university
faculties.
The availibility of hardware should not be much of a
problem. Only getting
laptops instead of desktops might be difficult but not
impossible.
I can bring my P-I desktop, it may be a good example for showing that linux
can run even on a slow machine with X, we can also show burning CDs at high
speed than Nero without using buffer underrun protection. It can also act
as a various servers (e.g. mail server, gateway server).
We are also planning to get a handful of reliace
phones for internet conenctivity.
Sayamindu and Arijit could make the reliance phone
work with gentoo on Sayamindu's laptop and in minutes
during the meeting and we are online !
It was unanimously decided that by default all
subsequent lug meetings
will be held in the same place, same day, same time.
ie. Sunday, 5pm. Udita.
So, all memebrs please mark your calendar and try to
keep yourselves free.
We are planning to make a separate mailing list for
COMPASS discussions if necessary.
Also a wiki page in our website will be setup for
COMPASS related discussions.
About the machines:
The number of machines in the stalls will depend on
how many stalls we will book.
Yet we are planing to present the following topics:
Linux for developers. (ALl IDEs, RAD, etc) - 1 machine
Localization - 1 machine
Imaging with linux (video/audio/ capture and digital
still/movie camera)
Multimedia machine. (DVD, sound games/etc)
LTSP (1 server and P.K.'s tablet PCs are terminals)
A linux cluster (if possible)
...
...
more to be added later
...
...
Since COMPASS is a 5 day event and till now, we are

Very sorry, suddenly my class had changed to sunday, so I was absent. But
count me as active participants for the Compass 2005 or meeting of ILUG-
CAL.
meetings,
its definitely not going to work if the number of
active participants dont increase.
By next meeting we must have a clear idea of how many
members will be willing
to give more time for meetings and the event.
There will be a form (either available online of sent
to members via email) where members are only requested to fill the dates
in which they are
availabe/not available/out of town/etc. So that by
next meeting (which is next Sunday) we can assign more
definite responsibilities to specific members.
After the meeting, we had a technology tour in P.Ks
residence where he demonstrated
all the innovative things he has done in his home lab.
Some of which we are
going to show in COMPASS.
.... Feel free to add missed pionts.
