While the reasons why Saugata-da posted those points may be different, I feel
they are relevant because:-
1) COMPASS is kinda advertising platform for the LUG, where we can carry out a
concerted advocacy drive for a period of three days and reach out to a large
number of people.

2) Our aim is to get to the junta "What" FLOSS is all about.

3) The obvious next question for all these people (,after we've answered the
"What") is "Where" and "Who"

4) If "where" points to an out of date website, then it isnt much of
advertisement, cos all the steam we would gather during COMPASS would be of
no avail if we dont have a face to project to the wired world. This though,
is minor, and can be rectified easily with the effort of an individual.

5) The real problem. We are a User Group. The "Who" would be answered by our
real life activities. As it turns out, (I dont mean to offend anyone here, I
am as much a part of the LUG as anyone else) we come alive only during the
time of an exhibition, expo or fair. Otherwise we are sluggish when it comes
to meeting and doing all the cool, geeky, crazy things that LUGs do in order
to socialize.

6) If we cant socialize as a LUG, then participating in COMPASS is equivalent
to putting a 1 page advert in the newpaper advocating Linux/FLOSS/GNU with
just a couple of email addresses to respond to. I guess that would end up
being a more economical initiative as well.

7) I still think we should participate in COMPASS. But we first need to start
functioning LIKE A LUG and then ask people to join the party. As of now, I
dont think we have either a party or venue to invite people to...

Just my 2 paise

PS: My intention is not to offend anyone here. Which is why I have taken care
to use the word "we" here. I hope I am not gonna see to many raised eyebrows
as a consequence of this post.
