2.6.12 is not preferred for *stable* debian. but if u need the *cutting-edge* 
technology u should try it. in my debian(testing) box I use 2.6.10 with LIRC 
support as module. for doing this I had to download the LIRC kernel-modules . 
but in 2.6.12 all these modules are present in the kernel-source.
