Wow, the LUG has been pretty active of late, which is
a good thing, right ? No seriously, it really is a
good thing. Its good to see so many people take active
interest in the functionings of the LUG. People who
most of us didn't even know existed have been
responding with their opinions. The only sad part is
that had all these people taken an interest earlier,
things would have been a lot different and *maybe*
better !!

An LUGs main function, as I understand, is to help in
the growth of linux by forming a local community and
helping the other members grow their knowledge of
linux. iLUG-cal, on the other hand, has always been
about
send-a-mail-get-solution-to-your-problem-and-never-look-back.
The community never existed. And yes, I do know that
there were rumours of a few meetings and I believe,
few people even attended them !! But, rest assured,
those meetings certainly didn't help the cause of
ilug-cal, as we all can see that now.

And now we see a call for change in leadership, change
of agenda and change of what not !! I mean, who are
you and why do you think ilug-cal is even important
enough to be holding elections and such !!

ilug-cal is almost a non-entity. Period !! Its not
even counted on any list when people talk about the
LUGs in the country and, would you believe, we're
having ownership issues here !! Do you think it even
makes a difference if the ownership of the mailing
list is with someone who doesn't exactly think the way
the other 800 members of the list do !! Go ahead,
register a domain, or get a free URL, a mailing list
on yahoogroups and start yapping away. Call yourself
linux-kolkatta or some such name. Does it even make a
difference !! Does anyone even care ?? The point is an
LUG will be known and matter only if it makes its
presence felt ... physically. As convenient and cool
email is, you wont be taken seriously unless you start
showing your face in public.

And going offline with your conversations doesn't help
!! Seriously !! I used to do that when I was in the
12th grade !!
