Other than a small segment of the members nobody has voiced any such opinion, and to assume that those who keep their mouth shut condone the actions of the vocal minority is perhaps not appropriate. > A lot of people responded with their complain and the more did > not responded directly, probably they are under consideration how to get > rid off the situation. LUG members are not the pet of List Admin. Watch it young man! The list is still under moderation, and whatever posts make it to the list are personally approved by the listadmin, *including your mail and the last one re: paternal property*. Do not overstep the line. Your immaturity has been tolerated, but any more personal attacks will probably result in me asking the listadmin to kick you offlist publicly. > Anyway, in this situation, only LUG should be taken into consideration. > LUG is more than a learning centre. And not by bickering about the current state of affairs. Come on people, we've had constant gripes that the list-admin doesn't organise meetings, doesn't let people post whatever they want, forcibly silences selected people and doesn't allow access to website. > To get > rid off the situation, one should come forward to tackle the situation, > and a screening should start with his leadership. Well I've not seen any initiative on your part! In fact to my best knowledge, the formation of the WBUT-LUG, and the ITME-LUG has been kickstarted by the very same listadmin you are criticising. Plus, organising some of of the biggest LUG meetings @ WBUT, and as far as Gmane archives show, proposing the idea of GLTs, one of which you're a member of IIRC > the lug's activities including the mailing list are managed by some > > self-styled leading members, Elected long before you joined. > who neither have the capacity nor true will > > to socialize with greater masses, for the purpose of popularizing linux. That's because nothing productive gets discussed, and only complaints and virus hoaxes are posted. (Oh, I did forget about the grandiose plans for maps of Kolkata) There are a few very bright people who are doing a very good job, but they largely choose to ignore the LUG as they receive very little support from the other members of the LUG. The GNOME translations are languishing, and I've not seen any significant numbers of LUG members stepping up to help complete the job. Yet when, due to the enterprise of these few, there is a significant development, the LUG chooses to claim it as a success of the LUG. > > for me the list is almost dead and i use it only for getting some > > technical information and contact of people who may be interested about > > linux. but that scope is steadily dwindling, too. it may be till someday > > before i finally unsubscribe from this list. Nahiiin !!! Hamein chor ke mat jaaanaa !! :) I've offered webspace, I've offered to setup an alternative site, I've only asked for help in registering a domain. No one has stepped up to take responsibility. All I see is bickering and mostly personal attacks on the listadmin, who dutifully approves these posts onto the list. If you are disaffected, stand up and be counted, and step up to the job at hand. Form your own group, and do your own thing. A lot of big words have been thrown around, like proactive and youth movement, and whatnot. I invite the disaffected members of iLUG-Cal to set up the Kolkata LUG (KLUG) and break away from the the present system. Instead of bickering, let's create something the way we want it to. Even if, after this invitation, the complainants do not come forward to actually fork the LUG, and choose to keep on complaining, then I'll take that as a sign that the said members are not really interested in the spread of Linux in Kolkata but have their own vested interest in taking over the LUG.
