Ahh! thank you so much!!! Finally I can take all the "attacks"
personally! What a relief!!! ;-)

Ahem... this is factually incorrect (at least going by established
precedence):

[1] Saugata (Ghosh) is the de-facto meeting and expo co-ordinator. As
nominated by PKS and supported by the vocal "majority". It was Saugata
who called for the last Linux Adda session (which you attended) and Arin
(Dr. Arindam Basu) offered his office space.

[2] PKS is the both lead rabble-rouser and lead patron of the LUG (He
has already presented his own credentials). He can sometimes be a little
difficult to deal with, but he has his uses, or rather his Udita
penthouse does ;-)

[3] Sankarshan Mukhopadhyay - Lead Interviewer of the LUG and part of
the think-tank, always whenever difficult questions needs to be asked.

[4] Sayamindu Dasgupta (one of the brightest Indian FOSS geeks) is the
web-master. In fact, the LUG home page clearly states that for comments
and queries the webmaster account needs to be contacted (the IITKGP guys
missed this and went looking in the wrong direction)

[5] Soumyadip Modak - one of the few people from India who contributes
to Debian, he has a quick temper and rather ready with his fists. A
config management expert by choice and final year CSE student by
profession. He can be expected to stand in and bend his back when heavy
lifting is necessary (yes literally :)

[6] Rajesh Kankaria - mostly a lurker, but an all-round sensible guy who
is a very helpful friend of the LUG. A geek at heart, runs a successful
s/w business.

[7] Dipankar Das - The resident author - wrote the wonderful book on
Linux "GNULinux Ishkool", but dont call him a professor to his face,
trust me he would be deeply offended ;-) He also happens to run the
path-breaking GLT at Madyamgram.

[8] Dr Arindam (Arin) Basu - An ENT Surgeon and bio-statistician by
profession, he is one of the few resident R experts (and great
presentation skills too) - an all-round fab guy!

[9] Sutanu K. Ghosh (Sutanu-babu for most) -- Sutanu-da is retired and
presently tirelessly interested in Linux and a tinkerer in general. As a
rather late entrant (chronologically) to use of Linux Sutanu-da managed
to surprise a lot of folks at the COMPASS 2003 ILUG-Cal stall. He's the
resident dadu-geek ;-)

[10] Rajarshi Guha - interested in cluster mgmt... and wrote some fine
python classes to manage mailbox conversions among other things... deals
with various stuff in the area of scientific computing

[12] Prof Manas Laha - Manas-da is a senior professor of AeroNautical
Engg at IITKGP. An old LUG hand, he is a guru in GROFF and a fundoo guy
in general. Helped Dipankar-da in writing a Ghostscript driver for
Dipankar-da's yet untamed printer. Extremely modest in his approach, he
really believes that Free Software can change the world, at least the
world of academics.

[13] Nirjhar Dhang - A colleague of Manas-da at IITKGP (but different
dept), never met face-to-face, but is someone who has been open handed
in contributing to the LUG whenever there has been a need for financial
support

[14] Sharninder Singh Khera - Young chappie and thorough geek to boot,
used to live at Kolkata at one point of time.

[15] Debangshu Saha (aka hizibiz) - heads the FOSS efforts at WBPCB. We
are often at loggerheads with different views of the situations. But you
can't question his commitment.

[16] Nirmalya Lahiri - mostly a lurker these days... bonafide geek, more
importantly he is the guy who introduced Sankarshan to the LUG (that is
important because it started off a different saga altogether ;-)

[17] Tathagata Banerjee - now married and silent, does double duty as
the co-ordinator for FSF West Bengal Chapter. A lecturer of English,
occasional cigar smoker and enjoying a good drink, he has the tenacity
to battle with a problem in linux like few others do. In his personal
capacity he has been quietly installing linux in a few places in his
native barrackpore. He is also the only person I know whose computer got
fried due to a raging bull :-D

[18] Siddhartha Basu (erstwhile siddhu, now sidd) - a bio-informatics
geek doing his post doc in the US. But his main claim to fame was as one
of the champion downloaders using the "fat" pipe at IICB. This was
before the days of DIAS and DataOnes. A hardcore techie, possesses a
rather formidable understanding of the GNU/Linux system

[19] Arijit Mazumdar - an electronics (VLSI) geek by profession, he is a
champion FOSS evangelist. Set up the OSCAR cluster at Chem Engg dept of
JU a couple of years back. He is also a regular Thekkie at Madyamgram.
Also managed the space at JU Chem Engg dept for the meetings

[20] Sumeet Madhukar Moghe - Mostly silent these days, but a true
battle-hardened soul (and I don't say that lightly ;-). A gaming freak,
i remember him asking me if he could give a slice of the LUG foundation
day celebration cake to the girl from the stall opposite to us ;-)

[21] A Mani - The only guy in the LUG who puts his name in the subject
line to avoid confusion with the "other" A. Mani (the poster) ;-) A math
geek, he can be trusted to come up with fundoo algos to solve a problem.
The other word of advice, don't ever ask him to sit on the handle of a
chair ;-)

[22] Rohit Vishal Kumar - or RVK as he is often called, is a faculty of
market research at IISWBM, he is ever willing to help out anyone with
LaTeX (or any of its variants)

[23] Sanjoy Chaudhury (aka samba) - became a member of the LUG during
COMPASS 2003 while working as the engineer-in-charge on behalf of one of
the sponsors who had lent us most of the systems. Has a lot of
experience, a soft spoken guy, but thoroughly dependable at times of
need.

[24] Anirban Biswas - now works for CTS, a geek at heart, has an
enormous disdain for spell-checkers and "french-cut suckers" ;-) Those
who were unfortunate to read Archie's Comics while growing up will be
able to identify one of Jughead Jones's major traits in Anirban. ;-)

[25] Palash Kumar - A doctor by profession, is now a complete Linux
convert. Attended all the last meetings, including the Adda session at
Arin's. A very enthu guy! :)

Well, there are so many others, and I could go on almost indefinitely.
But that's for another day!

cheers,
-indra.
