After doing a lot of searching on Google, I concluded
that an Amtel AVR would be better, but since you are
the experienced one here, maybe I will switch over ?
My problem is getting the parts for these circuits.

Exactly. Don't you use the GCC cross compiler for the
AVR ? Does PIC have a free/GPL compiler ?
