ClamAV is a very good antivirus tool to be used in Linux. But i feel it mostly as a email virus scanner. Other than this you can have some rootkit detectors like chkrootkit to protect your sysytem. When dealing with servers we often have chkrootkit, rkhunter , spamassassin installed and configured. Also another option is to have you firewall turned on along with having the SElinux in permissive mode. This can do a lot of things. But again if it hinders your application please disable it. It is high end security like military systems. In opensuse distros you may nnot fins SELinux, they have a replacement as Novell's Apparmour. I really love them a lot and go with these high end security systems.
