Since our google group is added to Gmane, migrating the past emails shouldn't be a problem as the emails could be downloaded as mbox. Even though google groups provides indexing and such, i think its better to rely on our own server space for mailinglist as well.
I had planned to create the website using django, and had drawn up an initial solution which abandoned the threaded mailinglist format for a stackoverflow.com style Q&A. i.e store the question and answer as emails with mailman, but provide a web ui which will display these in the stackoverflow style, with a ratings system tacked on. I couldn't complete it , partially due to lack of time but mostly due to lack of motivation. There are existing django solutions that provide the stackoverflow like UI , but some work has to be done to bolt it on to a mailman instance. This is a good candidate for a hobby project :) There are other web ui designs proposed for displaying a mailinglist - eg: http://mairin.wordpress.com/2010/03/16/a-rich-web-interface-for-mailing-lists/ . In fact I am ready to post a reward. I am ready to gift a domain name + 1 GB webspace with unlimited bandwidth for a year to whoever can implement either of the proposed UIs in django. This may or may not be used for the fsug-tvm website, but will be great for some similar discussion groups who want to host their website and mailing-list themselves. -- "Freedom is the only law".
