Hello, This might sound a bit silly in this post but is Canonical making any profit from Ubuntu? They are doing a great job on it and even distributing discs around the globe for free! This must surely cost a lot of money and effort! Now from this article I see that they are outsourcing the design of Ubuntu to a professional design team!
