FYI, According to the following url: http://linux-wless.passys.nl/query_chipset.php?chipset=Ralink version 4.1 is fully supported, the same as version 4. Both entries have a green coloured cell in the column titled 'works with Linux'. The table shows that version 4 uses a driver called rt2x00 while version 4.1 uses rt61. I own this card too, version 4.1. It uses kernel module rt61pci. Unfortunately the version is not listed anywhere on the box, but is there on a sticker on the card itself. On Mandriva 2008 Spring the card works fine. I think the required firmware is included with Mandriva CDs, except for the Free edition, because the firmware itself is not Free Software. If you have the Free edition of Mandriva, you will have to download the firmware separately and install it, otherwise the card should work out of the box. One small glitch I encounter occasionally when I start up the PC is that although the card has connected to the network and got an IP address, pinging the router does not work, therefore there is not 'net access. Usually disconnecting and reconnecting to the network makes the problem go away. I don't know if this glitch is due to hardware, software, router problems or anything else. It happens rarely enough that I'm not bothered enough to find out. _______________________________________________ To unsubscribe, email [email protected] with "unsubscribe <password> <address>" in the subject or body of the message. http://www.ae.iitm.ac.in/mailman/listinfo/ilugc
