I have to disagree. I cannot think of a better distro than Ubuntu/Mint to
give to some noob
friend of mine. Fedora was on my list because of aesthetics. But it looks
like Fedora does
not, unlike ubuntu, give you a 1 click way of adding mp3 codecs etc. And
Ubuntu is quite
stable. Do you expect them to run Debian Lenny? Ubuntu is good for newbies
since they
have a community of them. Any person in #debian asking about something very
simple
like how to query a package will get an rtfm

While Ubuntu may not be the best distro for the hardcore Linuxers, it is a
good starting
point.
