More like Fedora is a more oriented towards Free and open source
software and cannot because it is patent encumbered codec and a US based
distribution cannot legally point to patent encumbered codecs. However
it is trivial to get mp3 codec support in Fedora

# yum install gstreamer-plugins-ugly
Clicking on the release package in http://rpmfusion.org is a point and
click affair as well.
