More like Fedora is a more oriented towards Free and open source software and cannot because it is patent encumbered codec and a US based distribution cannot legally point to patent encumbered codecs. However it is trivial to get mp3 codec support in Fedora

To enable some extras, repositories:

# rpm -Uvh http://rpm.livna.org/livna-release-10.rpm http://download1.rpmfusion.org/free/fedora/rpmfusion-free-release-stable.noarch.rpm http://download1.rpmfusion.org/nonfree/fedora/rpmfusion-nonfree-release-stable.noarch.rpm

# yum install gstreamer-plugins-ugly

Clicking on the release package in http://rpmfusion.org is a point and click affair as well.
