Am afraid what Aanjhan actually pondered about was the similarity of
the contents describing the same product, claimed to be made by two
different parties where one is interested in installing it in
educational institutions, if am not wrong free of cost if the
interested organization is able to provide the required hardware on
their own costs, while the other party provided it free only for a
day's evaluation.
Although the FOSS Lab Server developed by DeepRoot Linux for NRCFOSS
has been released under GPL, and hence others can make copies of it
and distribute it for money, the question being raised is how similar
or how connected are these two products of the same purpose and same
name? Also the content of the flier by Linuxpert system is almost an
exact copy of the one by NRCFOSS, which am not sure about the license
under which it is published, except the paragraph reading,
""'The FOSS Lab Server has been developed for NRCFOSS by DeepRoot
Linux, Bangalore, and has been released under GPL. """
has been replaced by,
"""
-- The FOSS Lab Server has been developed by LinuXpert Systems,
Chennai, a reputed
organization who have been providing FOSS support and solutions for academic
institutions since 2003 and most of the softwares provided in the FOSS
Lab Server are
compliance with GNU GPL or Other Open Source compatible licenses.
Note: The FOSS Lab server is provided one day free for evaluation purposes.
(for academic institutions only)
"""
which for ordinary eyes looks like a blatant plagiarism unless the
former content has been available under a license which allows such
copies and modification.
As I myself had witnessed the effort that DeepRoot had put in this
product, during my tenure at NRCFOSS, I myself stand for the fact that
the FOSS Lab Server from DeepRoot is original and not copied from
somebody else. What we are wondering about is another product of the
same purpose, same name but being claimed to have developed from
somebody else who have also used the same content describing the
product.
