there is no doubt about that > I don't know how it is updated, and run, that is the whole problem - we have been waiting for this site for ages. There is no openness about the development - source is not available. My only need is for a site where members can post events, CDs for grabs and reports. There are so many events taking place. As soon as an event takes place, a report and a photo should be put up. Now everything is locked down. The FAQ mentions a CDs for grabs page - but it is not there. When will it appear? I have developed my site in total frustration at the lack of response of the site maintainers. And looking at their past record over the years, I do not see how it is going to change. > but > for now I feel (and this is just me) it should be the default address > given out to people who ask for a web address. > > Vamsee could have a done a fantastic job (again, just my opinion) but > I can understand if he is busy and only interested in doing this if > there is no alternative website being done by anyone else. that is a wrong interpretation - I think Vamsee's idea is that he will only spare time if there is a team willing to help out - and anyway he has now opted out and will direct his domains to whichever site is decided on. > > I like Kenneth's website only because it is in Django, which means it > would be fun to hack (and it could be so much fun), but But BUT, it > looks awful, and the code is a mess (well, this is criticism, but I > hope not unfair criticism). not and unfair criticism - it is a useless criticism ;-) A criticism of code should be specific: only then can anything be done about it. Yes it has not been designed to look good. The questions is: 1. can you register? 2. can you log in? 3. can you post a simple report with one photo? 4. can you report an event? 5. do reports and events get displayed on the site? this is important - the beauty of the code or the beauty of the site are secondary. > But still I am excited about it because > there are so many things that can be done here (clean, run out of the > box repo, better organized code, it's a program, infinitely > malleable...) that is the power of exposing the source code - every one can work to improve it. -- regards kg http://lawgon.livejournal.com _______________________________________________ To unsubscribe, email [email protected] with "unsubscribe <password> <address>" in the subject or body of the message. http://www.ae.iitm.ac.in/mailman/listinfo/ilugc
