Well, it's the same business model that Gillette uses - sell razors for 
cheap (100 bucks with cartridge) and make money on the cartridge 
(proprietary loading mechanism - nice touch, no?) which sell for around 
90 bucks each. From what I heard so far, the cheapest way to operate 
printers is to buy a black & white laser printer (and *never* a 
color/deskjet) and use after-market refills. If you void warranty, don't 
worry about it, your printer has almost negligible resale value with an 
empty cartridge any way. Just consider that your investment in a printer 
has 100% depreciation :)
