About blacklists and etc - in a few months time - most of the email providers will start publishing spf records (for more on spf records, lookup spf.pobox.com) - which will reduce forging of 'From' addresses given the recipient's smtp server checks for spf records and etc - this will effectively prevent one from sending mail as '[EMAIL PROTECTED]' using smtp servers other than that of yahoo itself
About the question of your ISP allowing you to relay etc - some of the ISP's do - but those who like Hotwire - have monkeys for sysadmins - and get their servers blacklisted - others like VSNL who are brain-dead anyway block mail as you had mentioned and even block attempts to use non-vsnl smtp servers - what we can perhaps do is to - talk to hotwire and help them by setting up smtp auth and etc - so that they have some kind of trail for spammers and etc In the long run however - we would need some kind of free mail access - where we can send mail via smtp and retrieve via imap/etc - I am trying to talk to few people to get this done - lets hope :-) _______________________________________________ ilugd mailinglist -- [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://frodo.hserus.net/mailman/listinfo/ilugd Archives at: http://news.gmane.org/gmane.user-groups.linux.delhi http://www.mail-archive.com/[EMAIL PROTECTED]/
