Hi everyone,
This is to inform you all about an event being organised for presenting the
benefits of GNU/Linux/OSS to the industry.
Titled--OpenTech August 2004, this event is planned to be a periodic one,
where users from the industry (like our very own Sudev "ji") will present
the pro (and cons) of adopting Linux. In addition, there will be a panel
that will attempt to address all queries of the attendees and dispel the
myths related to GNU/Linux/OSS--a theme suggested by Kishore "ji" :-)
I am pasting details of this event below, in text format to give you a
clearer picture. The registration so far has crossed 60, and thus there are
probably only 70-80 more seats left. Please note that preference is being
given to participants from the industry, keeping the goal of the event in
mind. Oh! the entry is FREE subject to approval of registration.
Feel free to register yourself at www.linuxforu.com/opentech/register/
Hope to see you there...
Best Wishes!
Rahul Chopra
PS: Will be posting a separate note soon on the help we seek from DLUG :-)

7 Reasons Why 90% Of Invitees Will Not Attend This Event
---------------------------------------------------------
#1: Its all Linux and Open Source: This is all cheap stuff. Ok, maybe its
even better technology and more stable platform, but who cares. Would rather
spend time on a technical training session explaining how the next
revolutionary proprietary OS will help our organisation maximise our
potential in the year 2006 (or whenever it is launched).
#2: Its for FREE: A free seminar??? Guess they dont have content or will
only talk about vendor productserrrbut they do seem to have speakers from
the general industry who are using Linux/OSS guess the organisers are being
funded by the Indian government. Rule of thumbif its free, it aint worth
itright?
#3: Its Only for 3 Hours: A three hour seminar for explaining Linux! Thats
too less of a time. Arent we all used to spending a whole day or even 2 to
3 days listening to various speakers talk about one topic (which generally
is their own company and its products)then how can OpenTech think of
discussing Linux/OSS usage in three hours? I tell you these organisers are
crazy.
#4: No Chief Guests: Oh God! Is that true? A seminar with no chief guests
and no keynote speakers! Dont we all love those long-winded speeches, and
those motivating words? One may not be able to reach any decision but then
who wants to attend an event where everyone is as good we are.
#5: No speakers from mega brands: They dont even have the usual list of
speakers that are there for every Linux seminar. Arent we all habituated to
that nice smooth flow of words that are repeated in every Linux seminar? Who
wants to break such a nice habitnot me at least.
#6: No Lavish Buffets: How can they do this? Have a seminar but no food! Don
t the organisers have any idea of the toll that three hours of an
interactive session has on ones hunger pit?
#7: No Drinks: That does it. Could have sacrificed everything else but no
drinksthat takes the cake. These organisers seem to think that people
attend a seminar for its contenttime for them to wake up and smell the lure
of a Bacardi!

No Exotic Drinks, No Elaborate Buffet
Only Serious Discussions On Linux, Open Source & Business
OPENTech Aug 04
13th August 2004, PHD Chambers, Auditorium, Siri Fort, New Delhi.
Set in a serious tone, this event is for those who prefer content over hype.
Users from different industry verticals will share their experiences with
Linux/OSS and provide you with tips and pros-and-cons for thinking Linux.
Their sessions will be followed by a Q&A session, where the speakers and
members from the Linux industry will get together to reply to your queries
and clarify your doubts.
Some of our colleagues who attend seminars for the lure of food and
drinks--will be disappointed by this event because all that will accompany
the serious talks on Linux/OSS will probably be samosas, cold drinks and
chance to network with like-minded people.
TIMINGS: Visitor Registration: 2:30 pm; Seminar: 3 pm to 6 pm
LINUX For You and Tetra Info are organizing this event in an effort to raise
the awareness about Linux in the industry. The registration fee is NIL, but
owing to limited seating capacity of the auditorium you are advised to
confirm your registration at the earliest.
