What problems does that route cause? 169.254/16 is just a netblock meant
for IPv4 autoconfiguration: clients are supposed to assign themselves an
IP in this subnet if they can't get an IP address in any other way (such
as from a DHCP server).

In this case, the distribution probably set it up, and it has nothing to
do with the ISP or the name resolution problems.
