Actually Unbutu has all packages and more which Debian Stable has
(its got more than 17000 packages if one activates multi universe )
...but I am on Debian on my dev server as packages tend more tested
and lesser upgrades also I am to lazy too try any other option

ubuntu server looks promising just 450 mb in size with all popular
server applications
~ such as apache, mysql, postgresql, php, zope, openldap, bind,
samba etc one CD with as usual 18 months cycle .

~ I just love ubuntu ...its makes me more lazy and happy ....who will
now Fedora for anything ;-)

|Which commonly used packages does Freebsd have in it ports collection
that
|Debian/Ubuntu doesnt?
|
|Also, can anyone point me to any references which have performance
|measurements of Freebsd versus Linux? Till now I have only heard about
|FreeBSD being better in performance than Linux. Anyone has any links
to tests
|which have proved to you that it is better?

as ports collection there are 11,000 ports in freebsd official repo .
I have not done any kind of performance testing ..... One thing abt
bsd ports is that its actually compiles ports from the source during
installation .....maybe that increases the performance by bit .Apache
is also very stable during heavy loads

I went for freebsd bcos rackspace wont offer free Debian support and
RH package installation is crappy ...even with yum (Debian is not a
supported OS in Rackspace!! only RH and freebsd ). After freebsd
installation I just fell in love with it
