Raj,
Hi,

Just heard that the ministry of information technology has installed
its version of the Linux operating system (BOSS) on around 40
computers used by its senior/middle-level officials in the ministry.

This, the government is saying, is the first such effort in a central
ministry, though states such as Kerala and Tamil Nadu have adopted
 Linux in different ways.

The officers in MIT are test-driving BOSS so that they can suggest
changes that will help fine tune the real development effort going
 on at CDAC.

We are trying to check if there are other projects at the CENTRE
which have involved using Linux by government officials.

One project I have heard about was started during the BJP
government's time by Sudheendra Kulkarni. Does anyone know if it was
 actually implemented / still exists?

There was also a Linux-related project in the rashtrapati bhavan -
but does anyone know if this come to anything?

many thanks,
Pragya
