I used to be an Altavista user, until I discovered Google. Stuck to
Google for speed. Then realised that Altavista takes payment for
premium spidering your site, and if you don't pay that premium your
site will be spidered weeks, if not months late. Ergo, Altavista
results are skewed towards people who have paid them: you may not get
relevant results from sites which Altavista has delayed indexing due
to non-payment of premium.
