Depends on whom you send mail to, many(don't know how many) mail hosts
refuse to accept mail from SMTP servers that do not have a valid DNS
reverse lookup.

if VSNL mail servers are to be used to relay mail then why use sendmail,

That was a norm before people started blocking known dial-up IP pools by
zillions.
