A WEP Key is not really necesary while setting it will always be beneficial as
u might avoid usage of internet by your neighbour. You can enter the desired key
in the wireless settings of the router in the 192.168.1.1 page.Initially
connect to the router through wire using a dhcp connection and acess the
192.168.1.1.Then set the WEP key for wireless LAN.You can conect to wireless
router using eiter DHCP or static IP both should work fine

Subject: [TwinCLinG] DataOne Broadband Wireless Connection - unable to get the
configuration right

            Hi!

in connection with my previous mail regarding getting my Acer laptop

to connect to the net using wireless DataOne router, I have finally

been able to do so after installing the ndiswrapper drivers.

However if I try to set a WEP key on the router interface by opening

the 192.168.1.1 page in a browser, the wireless gets disconnected. Now

if I try to enter the same key in network-admin it is not being

accepted.

I have a few questions regarding this, kindly treat me as an absolute

newbie.

1) Is it necessary to set a WEP (64 or 128) key?

2) If it is, then how do I go about doing it? and lastly

3) Should I connect using DHCP or should I set static IP addresses?

Thanking in advance,

Aditya Pratap V.

P.s. My OS - Slackware 11.0, kernel 2.6.17.13, running Dropline Gnome.
