I don;t understand clearly what you mean by "calculating an area from a
histogram", but -in my experience- whaat coordinate syst you use seems to
depend on the *first* layer you display. This happens even when combining
vectors and rasters. I don't know if this will help you, but it happened
to me once and it was rather silly to find the only thing I didn;t try
was tprecisely the problem.
