Your brother-in-law didn't have a bad idea, however Carbonlib 1.3.1 is not
an viable and workable upgrade for most of us. I plays havoc with a game I
have, Oni, and produces too many weird things. It makes my computer hang
in other programs as well. Make sure you downgrade back to 1.2.5.
MacFixit has discussed some issues it has with other programs.
I think you should inform you brother-in-law that some of us can't wait for
the next carbonlib upgrade to see if it improves or screws up performance
of our machines.
