mmm, I don't think updating your software had anything to do with 
this, unless you have some sort of special keyboard that requires 
special drivers (I don't know if such a keyboard exists). It really 
sounds like the shift and 3 keys are stuck down, or your keyboard 
THINKS they're stuck down. It could be a bad keyboard.

Try booting to the CD and see if the same thing happens. If it does, 
there's some USB or Keyboard weirdness going on.
