Yep I had to do that in the past too with the Apple CD Audioplayer. Nowadays that
would be iTunes, check that too.

You mean you did a clean install or did you install it over the existing System
Folder? If you didn't do a fresh install and if you should have a corrupted sound
prefs than it still wouldn't work. The first thing I always do when I have no
sound is to trash the Sound prefs. Did you do that too?
That usually works.
If that doesn't work than I suggest you d/l the freeware TechTools app (it's
named TechTools Lite I believe now) and zap the PRAM with that app.
The advantage if that app is that you can save the PRAM before you zap it that
should you have any problems after you can go back. Another advantage is that
this app remembers all the settings before zapping so that after you've zapped
the PRAM you don't have to re-enable AppleTalk, set your own system sound etc.
