Here is what has happened since I am sure I had sound last (I often keep it
turned off):
1. Apple tech replaced power/analog/video board (x3) and in the diagnostic
process also switched out the logic board.
2. Installed OS9.1
3. Updated the firmware
4. Installed new battery
What I've done since discovering I have no sound:
1. Checked "Sound" control panel (both "Alerts" and "Output") and Volume
Control Strip.
2. Reinstalled every extension and control panel that had the word "sound'
in it. (and restarted)
3. Asked the tech if she had had to remove the audio cable when she was
swapping out boards - she said, "No". (Can this be possible?)
4. Looked in the Apple TIL for info (they suggested checking the Controls
(see #1 above) and in some iMacs making sure the audio cable is re-connected
after installing new memory - not an issue for slot-loaders like mine)
Have not zapped PRAM - had bad experience in the past and will probably
never do it again. Please do not suggest it unless you have compelling
supporting reasons and evidence that it will actually do something.
I don't mean to sound testy but I'm hot (and humid) and ticked - my guess is
that the tech did not re-seat the cable that she denies removing - anyone
else have any better ideas?
Thanks.
