I really dont think that firewire is necessary for the readers. The USB is quite fast and it is not like you are downloading a huge amount of data. I have tried several different card readers none of which cost over $35 and now read all 5 types of media cards including the Microdrive. I think the nicest for the money is the POI Travel Flash which includes a short fold up USB connection (which is nice with an ibook) and 16mb of built in memory and a separate USB extension cable. It is about the size of pack of cigarettes and quite light. It connects fine with OS 9 or X on my iMac and ibook. I paid $35 for it. Ralph Plumb
