It's the market; cable (Comcast) is $45/month here in western
Connecticut, plus $5/mo. to rent a modem. It's $5 less if I get cable
TV, but then I'd have to give up my Dish Network & pay way more for
the TV service. I got DSL for the same price, better after discount
($50 - $5 discount per month for switching my phone service), plus a
better promo (free modem, $10/mo off for the first 6 months) and after
seeing complaints about Comcast am happy with my choice - I can always
change in a year if they get their act together.

I saw on Dealmac.com that Best Buy is again running their $30 special
- well, $80 minus $50 in rebates - on the D-Link DI-704 & 704P,
through this week. I got it last time they ran a special and it works
great. We needed it to network 2 computers, get the @#!%#@$! PPPoE
software off my OS 8.6 machine, and give my husband access to his work
network through Virtual Private Network - and it gives us firewall
protection.

At this price, I'd definitely get a router for any one of those
reasons!!

The 704P is available online; I don't see the 704 there. They're
basically the same except the 704P has a parallel printer port for
network printing, but requires Windows drivers.
