Hijacking someone's computer can happen but it's not very common
since it requires a lot of time and persistance.

You're actually more vulnerable to various "attacks" that are
meant to degrade your internet connectivity.

If your internet connection is repeatidly under attack, it will
slow to a crawl. Among other safety measures, the better
firewall products can block IPs that do this and prevent and/or
minimize the damage caused by such actions.

BTW, Norton doesn't give you a lot of protection in this area.
