The most common kernel panic I've seen is when someone boots into OS 9, deletes or moves around OS X system files (namely the System and Library folders), then tries to reboot into OS X. Beyond that.... a kernel panic is just a system bomb, basically. Some require a hard restart. Some require OS X be reinstalled. Others require the hard drive wiped and restored. Others still might mean the computer needs a hardware repair (if, say, there's a bad processor). Be no more concerned about kernel panics than you are about system bombs in OS 9. Personally, the only kernel panics I've actually seen (in OS X at least; kernel panics are a UNIX beast) have been when I ejected a PC Card that was still in use (a bad idea in any OS). -- The iMac List is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
